Visit of Dr. Rohan Shirwaiker
Dr. Shirwaiker is an associate faculty member in the Departments of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering and Biomedical Engineering at NC State University. He serves as the Co-Director of the $30 million Bezos Center for Sustainable Protein. His research focuses on biomanufacturing, 3D biofabrication, tissue engineering, and sustainable proteins, with over 150 publications and three patents. His work is supported by NSF, NIH, the Bezos Earth Fund, and industry partners. He has received prestigious awards, including the NSF CAREER Award, SME Outstanding Young Manufacturing Engineer Award, and IISE Fellow Award. Dr. Shirwaiker holds a Ph.D. and M.S. from Pennsylvania State University.
During his visit to the Production Engineering Department at VJTI Mumbai, Dr. Shirwaiker engaged with faculty and students, discussing his cutting-edge research in biomanufacturing and sustainable proteins. He explored potential collaboration opportunities and encouraged students to pursue Master’s and Ph.D. programs in Industrial & Systems Engineering at NC State University. Dr. Shirwaiker also provided valuable inputs on curriculum enhancements, enriching the academic environment.
